Horse breeds originating in the Bahamas.

The Abaco Barb is an endangered strain of the Spanish Barb horse breed that resides on the Island of Abaco in the Bahamas. There were only three of the original Abaco wild horses left after hunters decimated them in the 1960s, and these three survivors, a stallion and two mares, were relocated to the Bahama Star Farm.

The small, rotund pintos and bays are now thought to be descendants of horses from Africa’s Barbary Coast, which the Moors transported to Spain, and which the Spanish used in the conquest of the New World.
