Thumbelina is the smallest horse in the world. She was born on May 1st, 2001 on Goose Creek Farms in St. Louis, Misourri. At just 8 ½ pounds and 10 inches tall, her birth was quite a shock for everyone.
In the summer of 2006, Guinness World Records certified Thumbelina as the world’s smallest living horse. In fact, at her mature height of 17 ½ inches tall, she is the smallest horse on record, EVER. That’s 4.1-1/2 hands in horse lingo. The average horse is 14 to 16 hands, depending on the breed.
Her owners breed miniature horses but Thumbelina is a further quirk of nature – a miniature of a miniature horse.
She eats two cups of grain and a handful of hay each day.
